Resident living Areas

The George Derby facility is a spacious and modern structure. The building’s features promote a sense of community for residents, family members, visitors and staff and the living areas have direct access to the grounds.

There are four resident living areas. Three of the units are home to 80 residents each. The fourth unit is the Behavioural Support and Transition Neighbourhood which accommodates 60 residents who are living with Dementia, including Alzheimer’s Disease.

Each resident living unit has a variety of communal areas for the enjoyment of our residents including:

  • Several small lounges located in each living unit provide residents with opportunities to visit with family and friends, watch television or socialize with other residents;
  • Outside patios, balconies, a gazebo and beautiful gardens and walking paths;
  • A large dining room and lounge area;
  • Two central bathing areas that contain shower stalls and bathing units equipped with special lift devices if assistance is required.

The Artworks Studio provides an inviting environment for art projects, as well as equipment and supplies and a large work space. The studio schedule is posted on the door of the Artworks Studio as well as on the George Derby Centre webpage. Many resident-crafted items are on display for sale in both the Art Studio and the Gift Shop where family members and visitors are welcome to purchase items.<

Bistro

Our small bistro area is a great place for residents, family and friends to sit and have a coffee, listen to the juke box, watch the exotic fish in the tank, or play a game of cards.

Chapel

Our onsite Chapel is a room for prayer and quiet reflection for residents, family and staff to use during their time at George Derby.

Gift Shop

The Gift Shop, located on Main Street is run by our wonderful volunteers. The Gift Shop hours vary depending on volunteer involvement, and we are always looking for additional support. The general hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 – 1:00 pm. Residents and families are also welcome to play a game of pool on our billiards table located outside of the Gift Shop.
