Predictive fall prevention and continuous resident insights support safety, more efficient workflows and focused care
Resident safety at the Centre
George Derby Centre is a 300-bed long-term care community with a longstanding commitment to compassionate, resident-centred care and innovation. For residents at higher risk of falls, the care team has historically used traditional bed alarm pads together with frequent in-person checks.
“Resident safety was the starting point for us. We were interested in how Sleepsense could give our care team earlier awareness when a resident may be preparing to get out of bed, particularly for those at higher risk of falling. The early feedback from our team has been very positive.”
— Ava Turner, Chief Executive Officer, George Derby Centre
Beyond fall prevention: greater visibility and care efficiency
As the George Derby team explored Sleepsense further, they also saw opportunities beyond fall prevention. Continuous, objective information about sleep and bed activity, together with operational reporting, can give nurses and care staff greater visibility into resident activity and help support more informed care decisions.
“The safety benefits were very important to us, but we also saw an opportunity to support our nurses and care staff in how they manage night rounds. Better information can help make those checks more focused and efficient, giving staff more time to concentrate on the residents who need their direct attention and provide more personalized care.”
— Ronda Karliner, Director of Care, George Derby Centre
As George Derby gains experience with Sleepsense, the team will be able to build on these workflow efficiencies and realize broader operational benefits. More focused night rounds and reduced repetitive activity can create longer-term efficiencies, with those benefits becoming clearer through the Centre’s own experience and results.
“We’re excited to welcome George Derby Centre to the growing number of long-term care communities using Sleepsense. Their approach really reflects what Sleepsense is designed to support – starting with a critical challenge such as fall prevention and then using the additional visibility and insights to help care teams work more proactively and deliver increasingly personalized care.”
— Jessica Yang, CEO and Co-Founder, Tochtech Technologies
The deployment provides George Derby Centre with an opportunity to build firsthand experience with predictive fall prevention, continuous resident insights and new approaches to supporting care-team workflows.
